ADVICE FOR CLIENTS
Pet Passport Requirements For Travel As Of 1st Jan 2012
For pets to travel back to the Uk
1. A current pet passport
This must be issued and stamped by a registered vet
2. The pet must have been micro chipped
Have
your pet microchipped – Before any of the other procedures for pet
travel are carried out. Make sure the microchip number is in the pet
passport and it is correct (get the vat to scan the micro chip to make
sure) also make sure the date of micro chipping is also completed in
the pet passport.
3. The pet must be covered by a rabies vaccination
After
the microchip has been fitted your pet must be vaccinated against
rabies. There is no exemption to this requirement, even if your pet has
a current rabies vaccination. Rabies boosters must be kept up to date.
The length of the waiting period before entry to the UK is 21 days
after the first vaccination date. A waiting period is not required for
subsequent entries into the UK, provided rabies boosters are kept up to
date. If the vaccination is in two parts the 21 day wait will be from
the date of the second vaccination.
4. The pet rabies blood test rules have changed.
A blood test is no longer required for entry into the UK. 5. Tick, flea and worm treatment
Tapeworm
treatment – (dogs only): before entering the UK, all pet dogs
(including assistance dogs) must be treated for tapeworm. The treatment
must be administered by a vet not less than 24 hours and not more than
120 hours (1-5 days) before its scheduled arrival time in the UK. There
is no longer a mandatory requirement for tick treatment. Worm
treatments must be carried out by a registered veterinary surgeon and
recorded by the the vet on the pet passport with the date and time
administered. These treatments vary from vet to vet, some use Frontline
or equivalent for the ticks and fleas and others vaccinate, there will
also be a worm pill administered. Even if you have kept your pet up to
date with these treatments the pet will still have to be treated again
by the vet otherwise entry will not be allowed into the UK.
6. General health check
It is advisable to get a general health check carried out on your
pet by a vet just to make sure all is well with your pet for
the travel. There is a section in the very back of the pet passport
for a general health check so get the vet to carry this out when
you go to him to get the tick, flea and worm treatment done.
These health check details also need to be recorded in the pet
passport then signed and stamped by the vet.
No crossing out, mistakes or Tippex is allowed in the pet passport
and if there are any travel to the uk may not be allowed.
PetzBack Home offers a Spanish veterinary collection and delivery
service for our customers.
We charge 60€ per pet for this service (depending on distance).
For the 60€’s per pet we will collect your pet from your

The requirements are a lot less involved when leaving the UK. The
customer must have a current pet passport for each pet and make
sure their pet is micro chipped and the micro chip number corresponds
with the number in the pet passport. PLEASE
REMEMBER No pet will
be allowed back in to the United Kingdom unless it has had a
rabies vaccination
